Banias and their Marriage Rituals

Folks spend their entire lives searching for a perfect match.  The process of locating the right bride or groom is practically same in each civilization together with all the categorization of it turned into a love or an arranged marriage.   In virtually all Indian households parents would be the last decision makers for picking the lifetime partner for their kids.

The marriage ceremony at a Bania household begins with the worship of Ganpati ji in the houses of the bride and the groom, which can be performed couple of days before the actual day of union.   The decoration of this union Mandav is done following the prayers.  Then the women of the home visit a potter's location, signing and dance, as a procession, there they scatter sandalwood powder and blossoms on the potter's wheel, and they attract earthen pots back house to be, utilized in the union ceremonies.

A day ahead of the union both the Bania households, take presents and wedding gown for bride and groom to each others home respectively.  The bride and the groom don't take part in such rituals.  

On the afternoon of the wedding, both the homes are decorated with lights and flowers, all of the relatives, friends and distant relatives are all encouraged to attend the wedding ceremony.  To start with the wedding sculptures, chunks of cow dung ashes are thrown in each of the four directions, meanwhile the bride's mum takes seven circular rounds round the dress holding curd in 2 earthen pots, which later are crushed from the ideal foot of the dress letting him enter the Bride's home or instead of union.
Then the mom of this Bania bride washes the feet of the dress with honey, curd, sugar, milk and ghee to bring the purifying factor.  Following this, the actual marriage ceremonies occur of Kanyadan (a ritual in which the parents gives the obligation of the daughter to the groom for your life), phere (seven personalities round the holy fire to guarantee each others support from most walks of life), and the groom applies sindur or browse powder onto the forehead of the dress and making her wear a 'mangalsutra', signaling the evidence of a married ladies.  All this contributes to the conclusion of their Bania marriage ceremonies, that can be more or less just like a Hindu marriage.

Afterward the 'Bidayi' service occurs, component of the Bania bride goes away into the groom's home to lead a happy married life.  The the automobile carrying the bride towards her brand new home was designed to crush a coconut to indicate a pure and joyful start of the married life.
